Money borrowed and shared

Often we hear astrologers say: The eighth house represents money borrowed or shared money.
While I understand this is generally assumed to be true I don’t think it’s supported by good astrological logic.
The person you are borrowing money from is represented by the seventh house and their money is the eighth house. Exceptions would be specific people, such as a sibling (third house), father (fourth house), mother or the boss (tenth house), etc.. Here, for the sake of simplicity, I’ll restrict my comments to someone represented by the seventh house, who is usually a partner.
If your partner gives you money then their money is now in your possession, and your possessions are represented by the second house. Maybe it’s loaned to you with all sorts of conditions attached but it’s still in your possession until you pay it back. It’s ‘in your pocket’.

We can’t call money you have borrowed shared money because unless you pay it back the lender can’t access it, and therefore it’s not really shared. Even if there are legal agreements that you should pay it back, while the money is in your possession it is represented by the 2nd house, because the second house represents assets in your possession.

House meanings not constrained by law or ethics

The houses do not by themselves carry meaning relating to legal or ethical constraints. They relate only to simple realities, and the second house is specifically related to one’s movable possessions and assets. It doesn’t matter whether the money in your spouse’s bank account or pocket is earned, stolen, borrowed or whatever. If it’s currently in their possession then it’s ruled by the eighth house. If someone borrows money from you, then this money is in their possession (their second house) until they pay it back to you, and is no longer represented by your second house. The houses represent simple realities.

astrology moneyShared money

The eighth house is often referred to as shared resources due to the loose definition of the seventh house as other people and therefore the eighth house as other people’s money. However when we are looking at a chart, whether it be natal or horary, the question usually concerns a specific person, not an amorphous group of unidentified people.

The second house shows your money and your bank account. Even if this account is shared with your partner it’s still one of your movable assets and  is represented by your second house. However if your partner empties this account then your money is gone and it’s now in their possession and is represented by the eighth house in your horoscope and by the second house in their horoscope.

Me and you

However if we do accept the idea that the eighth house represents money shared between you and me, then we have to accept that the seventh house represents us together; you and me. However I can find no astrological authorities, ancient or modern, who support this idea. In one’s natal chart the first house represents me and the seventh represents the other; usually the spouse or partner, the open enemy or person we are in contention or doing a deal with. But the seventh is never “us”. The foundation principle that can be traced all the way back to the beginning of horoscopic astrology is that the first house represents me and the seventh house represents you.

If we defy this basic logic then and say the eighth house represents us together, then what does the first house represent? It cannot represent me because I am now part of the eighth house. And what about you? Are you now only part of a joint entity and not an individual person? It really doesn’t make sense.

In horary astrology if the question concerned us together, for example Will we travel to Spain next year? then the first house would represent us together. Horary astrology is very contextual. Following the same logic, if the horary question is: Will our money grow this year? then we would look at the ruler of the second house. But the seventh house is not used to represent us nor is the eighth house used to represent our money.

The same logic is employed when a question is asked about a group that the querent identifies with, such as a football team. For example, Does my team have enough funds to build the new stadium? My team is represented by the first house, and its funds are represented by the second house.

Conclusion

I am proposing that the popular logic for describing the eighth house as borrowed money or shared money, or ‘our money’, is flawed, and needs a rethink. It simply does not make sense that the eighth house can be shared money unless the seventh house also represents us together as this would undermine the fundamental meaning of the houses, namely that the first house represents the chart-owner (the native) and the seventh house represents their partner or opponent.  The seventh house can never include the chart-owner as that would invalidate the meaning of the first house.

Astrology is beautiful in its simplicity. The second house always represents the money in our bank account and our movable resources and possessions, whether or nor someone else has access to these things. Its meaning is related to movable resources that support us and is not invalidated by the fact that someone else can access these resources or whether there are legal or other claims on these resources.

Xi Jingping horoscope Xi becomes emperor

On March 11 2018 Xi Jinping became President of China for life after constitutional changes were passed by the annual sitting of parliament, the National People’s Congress, which approved the removal of the two-term limit on the presidency.  The vote was widely regarded as a rubber-stamping exercise.

Xi’s natal horoscope

Because  Xi’s birth time is unknown the Moon’s range is shown for its 24 hour passage on 15 June 1953. Neither are houses or the Part of Fortune shown, as these require an accurate birth time.

Like Trump, Xi Jingping has the Sun in Gemini. Their natal Suns are almost exactly conjunct, within one or two degrees. A very interesting coincidence. The Sun in Gemini suggests that there are two sides to Xi Jingping. Gemini is associated with agility, curiosity, and mental dexterity.

In Xi Jingping’s horoscope the Sun is ruled by Mercury in Cancer, conjunct Uranus, showing a very quick and intuitive mind. His Leo Moon offers warmth, charisma and a need to be the centre of attention. It also hints at the desire to lead, to dominate.

Venus is in antiscia relationship with Xi’s natal Pluto, suggesting a hidden desire to dominate.
Xi Jingpimg becomes empororXi Jingping’s natal Sun aspects Pluto in Leo, showing intensity, ruthlessness and the desire to dominate. It also aspects the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Libra. Saturn is also about control and power, and together with Neptune in Libra he achieves goals with poise, balance and good judgement.  Neptune adds sensitivity and refinement, and also the capacity for deception and the use subtlety in presentation. Pluto in Xi’s horoscope sits at the midpoint between the Sun and Saturn/Neptune.

Progressed Sun

When this horoscope is progressed his natal Sun is at 25 degrees of Leo, which suggests an important life change in about 5 years time when it moves into Virgo. It is possible that he ceases to be President in 5 years time.

Ascension to presidency for life

The horoscope for his ascension to presidency for life (becoming emperor of China) is taken from various news reports. Some say 3:45 pm and some 3:50 pm. I believe this horoscope is close to an exact time.

Xi JingpingThe ascendant ruler the Sun, which also symbolizes leadership and power, aspects Pluto, suggesting an unconscious desire to dominate. This aspect echoes his own natal chart where the Sun also aspects Pluto by sextile. The Sun next aspects Jupiter, the planet of expansion.

The Moon trines the Midheaven, the place associated the highest authority. In Capricorn the Moon is cautious and well organised. It is ruled by a powerful Saturn, which in mundane (political) astrology represents law enforcement.

Bi-wheel

When this chart is overlaid onto Xi Jingping’s natal chart we see a striking focus on Pluto in Xi Jingping’s natal chart

The ascendant for his ascension to presidency for life conjoins Pluto in Xi’s horoscope. As mentioned above his Pluto sits at the midpoint between his Sun and Saturn/Neptune.  And the Uranus-Mars trine in the ascension horoscope trines Xi’s natal Pluto. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, also links with his Pluto.

Even without a time of birth for Xi Jingping we can see that the horoscope for his ascension to presidency for life links remarkably to his natal Pluto, which represents the unconscious drive to dominate and control.

Horoscope for China

And when we check the horoscope for China, is there a link the degree of natal Pluto in Xi Jingping’s horoscope? You can bet there is. But that’s a story for the next article.

Relationship astrology

Mars trine MoonRelationship planet

Astrology can reveal relationship events in unusual ways. This morning my partner Alison caught her little finger in the orange juice squeezer. There was blood and pain. Fortunately nothing serious.

Although I was in the house I wasn’t there when it happened. This is a very important point because in my horoscope (see attached partial image) Mars was applying to trine my Moon in 25′ of arc.. A very close applying aspect. But the injury didn’t happen to me and I played no part in the unfortunate accident.

One important interpretation for the Moon in a man’s chart is that it represents his female partner (wife, girlfriend…..). Other interpretations would include the man’s mother, his emotions and automatic responses, and the meaning of the house in rules.

In case you are new to astrology Mars represents cuts, injuries, upsets, fights, violence, things splitting apart (and therefore divorce and separation), blood outside the body…

What I have found over the years is that when a transiting planet aspects my Moon something happens in Alison’s life that resonates with this transit. It has happened a lot and we have often remarked on it. Alison is also an astrologer so she understands. And, before you ask, there were no transits this morning to her chart that suggested an accident or injury or a Mars type expression.

I have only found mention of this phenomenon in a couple of astrology books. I can’t recall anything in the traditional works.

But seriously does this happen? How does the cosmos know that she is my partner and direct the planetary energy towards her? Using palmistry and astrology I have consulted over 18,000 people in the last 30 years, mainly horary astrology in recent times, and I am rarely surprised as I understand that astrology describes the fabric of our lives with uncanny accuracy. But nevertheless when something like this happens I am still impressed.

Over the years I have heard my theories about why astrology works and I have my own theory but the truth is that no-one really knows. Not really. But the word ‘awesome’ in the sense of its original meaning, is the one that I would use to describe astrology.
