A translation of light (TOL) occurs when a faster planet (usually the Moon) connects 2 slower moving planets that may not be in aspect. It is like an aspect that occurs when there may be no standard Ptolemaic aspect (conjunction, opposition, trine, square sextile).

The Moon acts like a go-between, enabling the people represented by the TOL to meet or conduct some transaction, depending on the context of the question. TOL is very important in horary astrology and has interesting applications in natal astrology.
