Recommended Reading

The list of books described below is a recommended starting point for anyone interested in learning or updating their knowledge of our noble Art.

When time permits I will add a more comprehensive list which will also important include works by authors over the last two thousand years. It will be updated from time to time. Suggestions are welcome.

On the Heavenly Spheres by Helena Arelar and Luis Ribeiro

On the heavenly SpheresPublished in 2010 by the American Federation of Astrologers, Inc..

For those starting astrology and also for experienced astrologers this is a book I highly recommend.
It contains all the fundamentals and is a stand-out in terms of its clarity and treatment of our noble Art.

On the Heavenly Spheres is also one of the more comprehensive books on astrology and an invaluable resource for both beginners and seasoned astrologers.

The Horary Textbook by John Frawley

The Horary TextbookPublished in 2005 by Apprentice Books.
When first published this book was a game changer in the world of astrology.
It exposes many illusions perpetrated in modern presentations of astrology, and offers a method of interpretation that produces excellent results.
While provocative The Horary Textbook provides an excellent guide to the practice of horary astrology, the art of answering questions without the aid of a natal chart. Horary provides the foundation principles for the other branches of astrological study, and for this reason is perhaps the best place for the aspiring astrology student to begin.

The Houses, Temples of the Sky by Deborah Houlding

The Houses Temples of the SkyPublished in 2006 by The Wessex Astrologer Ltd.

This excellent work by Deborah Houlding on the mundane houses, brings an historical perspective on the houses of the horoscope, as well a clear understanding of their place in contemporary astrology.

It is exceptionally well researched and is a book that I recommend to all my students.

Classical Medical Astrology – Healing with the Elements by Oscar Hofman

Published in 2009 by The Wessex Astrologer Ltd.
Classical medical Astrology is an invaluable resource for those interested in medical astrology and basic principles.

There are few modern publications on the subject that reach the high standards in Oscar Hofman’s presentation.
